The Photograph

The Photograph

The photograph lies on my lap
Bringing back memories of that sweet day
The scent of the flowers still so fresh,
The soft touch of the fabric against my skin,
The way we laughed, the soft tinkle
You and I,
Dear friends never to part

Now we are oceans away
You seem so far away, so unreachable
I canâ??t find you in this mist anymore
Maybe you have friends now,
Friends like you and I used to be

I turn the page
Another photograph, another memory
Bubbling near the surface, ready to bring out tears
The day we parted, the day we said goodbye
It wasnâ??t even proper, I just hugged you
And whispered a Goodbye
And I was running off, ready to go into
A new and strange land

I still feel the perfume youâ??d put on
The one weâ??d shared all our life
(Together with all the make-up)
And you were wearing that red shirt
The one Iâ??d bought for you
It was almost as if you knew
That I was saying Goodbye

I still feel that tear on your cheek
The salty taste almost numbing me
I still feel the tear,
Like a dew drop reflecting the sunâ??s rays
On the day I laughed because I was so excited
But in the night, I missed those telephone calls
I had with you.

But they were forgotten
I grew apart
I had my own friends
I broke my promise-
I wouldnâ??t write a letter

I wouldnâ??t call you
I thought you were fine

And you were put aside
Those memories locked in a special place
The photographs bundled to gather dust

Forgotten in the cascade of time
Like these photographs faded with time
But I still treasure you, please understand
This poem is to you,
Please give our friendship another chance
