Are We Alone?

by Steven Beesley   Feb 5, 2006

Are We Alone?

In the windless passages of space,
where time indeed has no meaning and place.
Where is the beginning, where is the end?
there seems to be no boundaries except in our minds.

We are but a small speck of dust,
not even a small grain in time.
Had not a place in the big bang!
But how long will this universe last?

How very vast, there is no measure
of what is truly out there.
Are we all alone or so it would see,
but it seems like any awful waste of space?

Can you believe that we are that supreme?
Intelligent beings on this place called earth.
Intelligence by whose definition
or is our own vanity overtaking us?

Someday we may yet find
that we are not alone,
but by then it may be too late
as we may have poisoned our only home.
