Our huddled (m)asses

by Joe Moore   Jan 13, 2004

Guilty Guilty Guilty
convicted black and poor
banished to the America's
suffering inmate for sure

3 hours, 5 hours, 7 hours 9
wanting relief from our condition
good behavior won't cut your time
during your inherited rendition

waiting, aching, complaining
but can't go to sleep
security on their job
though care and service is cheap

crying feel like dying
bones weary and old
pain from illness and sorrow
and attitudes of bitter cold

can't rest for 10 minutes
can't cuss scream and shout
can't act blackly indignant
or security puts me out

gun shot victim know time
even the paramedics cry
praying that he'll be fine
trying not to let him die

haven't seen a doctor
can't get in to a nurse
but they ask all proper
how much money is in your purse

oh and with the taxes i pay
representation should be first
i should have personal physician
and a full time nurse

then i sit in agony
quietly abide my time
feels like a prison stretch
again black and poor is my crime

look at all the heads bowed down
eyes crying and swollen shut
grimacing but dealing with the pain somehow
waiting for their time to come up

some so sick they can't cry
just curl up on the floor
if you think your gonna die
you'll be better off outdoors

don't have any money
but still, need to see the doc
some so young and lonely
can't ignore their Cries and pouts

your families their cause your ill
trying to make sure you're O.K.
but all the chairs are filled
so they wait outside today

nurses attitudes so vain
gossiping while they lurk
don't care that you're in pain
don't care how much you hurt

and the gun shot victim they brought in
you know he didn't pull Thru
lord meet him at the gate, forgive his sins
and please watch over your people too.
