We thank you

The horrors we have seen,
Arenâ??t even much,
Compared to the veterans
We donâ??t know to much
To be at war and want to win
For not being able to save your best friend

To eat in trenches dirty and dark
Wondering is this my last meal or not?
Hearing the bombs the guns the screams
Seeing the dead bodies that are no longer free
Not able to sleep, eat, or breath
The mice the rats the bugs
Wondering if youâ??ll get shot or die from a disease

Wondering if you will come out alive
Coming home knowing youâ??ve survived
Seeing your family, your children and friends
But missing the friends youâ??ve lost
You canâ??t pretend

Living with the horrors youâ??ve seen
But really can not bear
Dreaming about it over and over again the war you were in
You will never ever forget

The things youâ??ve over come
All the friends youâ??ve lost
No matter how hard you try
You will never erase that from your mind

But you the veterans we thank you a lot
For you have saved us and we thank you a lot
For all of you not here we know youâ??re in a good place
Or the rest of you out there you are in a special place in our hearts

You have served us well
We will never forget
The fights, the horrors, and the things you wont forget
You are heroes
You helped save this world
No one understands
The lessons you have learned

Lifeâ??s not always fair
It never will be
But the family and friends
All the hearts you have filled

The good days
The bad
The ones where you are just plane mad

Nothing will compare to the things you have spared
You volunteered your life your body and soul
You were willing to give up your family you hold

The friends you have lost
The friends you have gained
The pain from losing them
The horrors everyday

No one understands
No one ever will
How you gave your life
To save us and this world

We will never forget
And never ever replace
Youâ??re a place in our hearts
And thatâ??s where you will stay
