Dad... why?

by Shaina Ahenger   Feb 13, 2006

Why can't you grow up this time?
And be a father to me.
One that I'm not so disgraced of,
One that really loves me.

As a little girl,
You seemed to place me at number one,
Until that day, we missed my soccer game,
Because you wanted to keep watching a stupid race on tv!
.. we just had to go to the bar.

Your an alcoholic, I know that,
But why can't you change?
And realize that I really need you.
Even though I say "I don't care."
It still hurts, I admit,
That you want to drink your life away.
That's how it all started out.
But you just chose to slip further away,
Into a life of parties and broken memories.
You'll never change, will you?
No matter how hard I plead?
Where is that father that never came to be?
Why couldn't you change, just for me?

Here I am, a daughter to two,
A mother who has always cared,
And a step dad who loves me more than you do.

Why dad? Why can't you see?
That I really need you,
...to love me.
