Daddy Daughter Dance

by Emily   Feb 15, 2006

She sits alone and watches
Listening to the slow song
All the girls are having fun
Spinning in dresses that are so long

She has no one to dance with
By herself in the chair
The girls look all pretty tonight
Pink ribbons in their hair

The high heels are way too big
Their feet are way too small
Shakily, they walk
Careful not to fall

This little girl of five
Knows her date won't come
Her date's already arrived
In the stars that are his home

The fathers hold their daughters
Whenever they have the chance
But tonight this girl's an Orphan
At the daddy-daughter dance.

For some reason, I don't adore this poem. It's definitely not my favorite.
