Have You Seen God Up In The Sky?

by A Former Outcast   Feb 18, 2006

Have you seen God up in the sky?
Have you seen where men go when they die?
Have you ever seen Heaven or Hell?
Where angels and demons are said to dwell?

I sincerely doubt that nonsense story,
Of Heaven and Hell, in all their glory.
So whenever I seem to have failing health,
I take a quick moment to ask myself:

Have you seen God up in the sky?
Have you seen where men go when they die?
Have you ever seen Heaven or Hell?
Where angels and demons are said to dwell?

When I see prophets standing in the street,
Their message unfaltering, not missing a beat,
I walk up to them, as part of my task,
I stand straight, and this is what I ask:

Have you seen God up in the sky?
Have you seen where men go when they die?
Have you ever seen Heaven or Hell?
Where angels and demons are said to dwell?

Now I lay here, in my bed,
Where I will soon be cold and dead.
I pull the nurse close, and whisper in her ear,
The questions that all men really should hear:

Have you seen God up in the sky?
Have you seen where men go when they die?
Have you ever seen Heaven or Hell?
Where angels and demons are said to dwell?

This poem would make a good song, I think. Though you truly should stop tormenting yourself with all these questions and doubts. It's not really worth it.
