Justice

by Michael D Nalley   Feb 19, 2006

Justice, the scale weighing dark and light
Speak not of it lest its keeper be in sight,
Balancing Earthly power is as natural as night and day
In darkness we sleep with an awakening on the way.

Justice shuns blindness that has waited long
Mercy is a kindness overlooking the wrong,
The keeper of the scales is balancing the two
Dishing each individual what is justly due.

Justice began with the sins of Adam and Eve
The forbidden fruit of pride shall misconceive,
An order of the heavens bestowed upon the Earth
Was inherited by God's children during its birth.

Dominion was given to the serpent but wasn't lost
It had to be returned to man with a heavy cost,
For every truth spoken, it seems, there's a lie
Not a tooth for a tooth nor an eye for an eye?

Justice is the price, mercy turns the other cheek
As well as been given and received by the meek,
Justice is the sorrow, forgiveness is daily bread
We must share each burden in order to be fed.

Wow Michael, I've read a couple of your poems. I'm hooked! The words, the feelings, the fact that none of the rhyming feels forced! Amazing!

First, let me start off by thanking you for commenting on my poem "sorry." it was a big compliment coming from a great writer like yourself. i really liked this piece. it was very straight forward, and being religious myself, i thought it was very true and spoken very wisely. u have so much talent and your writing shows it. i love how you reference adam and eve so much. like each of your poems is a new beginning and a new thought. great writing. keep it up!!
