She dreamed of dancing

She dreamed of dancing

"Come and sit down,"
The doctor said with a sigh.
"We need to talk about the results.
Whether your daughter may live or die."

Annie broke down to cry,
As she heard the heartbreaking news.
Her little girl was sick with cancer,
And she was only 2.

"We can catch the cancer in time,
If you want to go through the surgery."
The doctor said, with a smile.
"But we have to hurry."

*

They laid little Sarah down on the table,
It was time to save her life.
She slowly fell asleep,
And the doctor picked up the knife.

He opened her up,
Her little body lay helpless and scared.
"Please god, keep my little girl alive."
Annie silently said a prayer.

Two hours later, they came out of the room,
It was finally over with.
"We caught it, Annie."
The doctor smiled with happiness.

*

Now Sarah, was called to the doctors,
At 16 years old.
She sat in the chair her mother had,
14 years before.

"I have bad news..."
The doctors voice broke off.
"Your cancer has come back."
Sarah broke into a sob.

"I'm so young,
I have a life to live..."
She looked up helplessly,
"Can you catch it again?"

*

They laid big Sarah down on the table,
It was time, again, to save her life.
She slowly fell asleep,
And the doctor picked up the knife.

He opened her up,
Her body lay helpless and scared.
"Please god, keep my little girl alive."
Annie silently said a prayer.

Two hours later, they came out of the room,
The doctors face didn't look good.
"Annie, we need more time."

*

"Remission for months,
More surgery afterwords.
We will get it, Annie,
Sarah will be cured."

Those were the words the doctor said,
It was Sarah's prom,
But she didn't want to go bald, alone.

Sarah's date, showed up at the door,
It was time to go dancing, to have fun.
Joey took off his cap,
To show his hair all gone.

*

He twirled her around,
In the middle of the floor.
She smiled at him,
Wanting to be twirled more.

They danced more,
Around and around.
Without any care,
She didn't make a sound.

Sarah's true love holding her close,
for a moment she wasn't scared.
It was the perfect moment,
Finally she wasn't afraid.
