Shards of Life

by Kim   Feb 25, 2006

Swept up in the perfect moment
Made of nothing but glass
So real, and so meaningful
But over so fast

Now on my knees I kneel
With these shards on the ground
Each one shimmering with a moment
Once lost, but now found

Your smile glitters from a jagged edge
But a few feet away
A preserved moment of happiness
Eternity in a day

My carefully wrought shields
Nothing more than gossamer strands
Softly fall apart with the mere memory
Of holding you in my hands

So fleeting those moments
Yet perfect and true
And resting around my knees
Shimmer memories of you

I gaze upon these shattered pieces
Unable to turn my eye
And find silver tears gathering
Yet unable to cry

So shall I gather these images
The last of my strife
Since I bid you goodbye
With the shards of my life
