The softest prayers are always heard

by Timothy   Feb 25, 2006

1st Verse:
A little boy lies awake in his bed,
What a horrible night! And so much is running through his head;
Mama says, "Try to sleep. Everything will be all right.",
But Bobby is too afraid of what will come with the daylight.

Bobby's daddy had gone out East, to make a better life for his wife and son (it's what had to be),
He had taken a job far away; but soon he would send for his family;
The news tonight had reported a horrible accident, and a phone call had confirmed that Daddy was hanging on a lifeline,
Thirty workers trapped far underground...in the collapse of the copper mine.

Chorus:
What do you do when you feel utterly alone?
You can't send a letter, or pick up a phone;
Fear courses through you like a great wildfire,
And hopefulness has gone from bleak to dire.

You don't give up---that's what you don't do,
God is listening---and He WILL get through;
Speak ever so gently, like the rustling wings of a bird,
The softest prayers are always heard.

2nd Verse:
Bobby's daddy coughs and blood he spits,
He watches as his fellow workers give up on hope and just quit;
Darrin stares at the low supply of oxygen---a dismal predicament,
And tears sting his eyes as he thinks of his family so distant.

But thinking of that family, it brought about a new energy,
Although unable to speak, God heard his prayer with clarity;
As the rubble moved aside, and the artificial light glimmered,
Darrin understood that even the very softest prayers are always heard.

Repeat Chorus:
What do you do, when you feel utterly alone?
You can't send a letter, or pick up a phone;
Fear courses through you like some great wildfire,
And the hopefulness has gone from bleak to dire.

You don't give up---that's what you don't do,
God is listening---and He WILL get through;
Speak ever so gently, like the rustling wings of a bird,
The softest prayers are always heard.
