The wide-eyes look of innocence,
Was al she had to give,
For some unknown reason,
She was left alone to live.
She looked around at violence,
Petty, greed and hate,
And mourned the loss of those she loved,
Who had met their fate.
She knew not why these soldiers,
Were ravaging the city,
Without remorse or mercy,
Without feeling or pity.
Alone, afraid she sat,
In hiding she was safe,
But survival only left her,
A poor, deserted waif.
As guns were blazing, cannons roared,
And death was all she saw,
She wondered if this could be,
What Daddy meant by ‘war’.
But she could never ask him now,
For eternally he slept,
So holding onto ‘Mum’ and ‘Dad’,
A tiny orphan wept…
