Mind Games

You want to trust him
To believe all those wonderful words he said
To imagine you mean something
When in reality you feel you mean nothing
You know what he says is deceit
But you want to believe so badly
That your mind turns a blind eye
And you trick yourself into believing
All those terrible, terrible lies
You hope that he cares
That he understands your thoughts
But how can he
When you don't even understand your thoughts
Deep down you know he is lying
And that your going to get hurt
So why can't you stop?
Why can't you stop caring about a person
Who cares nothing for you
Why must you continue to let your mind play tricks?
Why is it so difficult to let go?
To move on to something better
But then you stop and think
Maybe there isn't anything better
You tell yourself that you will never trust again
That you will never let anyone get that close to your heart
Just so they can tear it apart
A lifetime of loneliness, sounds awful I know
But because of the pain he forced into your heart
The pain in your soul in numb
Just the way it should be
So you can never feel that pain again
