Running

by Tim Fleckney   Mar 1, 2006

I'd been cranking for three days
Three days of non-stop stimulation
Hair standing on end
Scalp tingling and twitching
Sweat popping out of every pore
Running down my chest so fast
My pants were soaked
I felt like I pissed myself
maybe I had

The hair on my arms stood
Straight up and waved
To the same beat that kept
My toes tapping despite the
Desperate outcry of muscles
Pushed way past
Any sane limit

The beat that played over and over
In my head
Three non-stop days of
Iron Butterfly's In-A-Gada-De-Vida
Echoing just behind th burning
Sockets I called Eyes

I was due to crash and crash hard
You can only crank yourself
Up for so long

Staggering through Toronto's
Bus depot praying for
One more hour
All I needed to put the lights of
This hellish city behind me

Fleeing before I broke down and
Used the gun I bought

Trying to outrun the memory
Of a good friends betrayal
Wondering if he knew how close
He was to death

Desperate to escape
Terrified to return to that rat
Infested hovel on
Yonge street the one
With the dealer just
Down the hall
The one with the telephone
The God Damned telephone

I swear to Christ if i pick up
The phone one more time
And hear her sniveling,
Whining, apologetic lies
I'll put a bullet
Right through her
CHEATING HEART

Tim, with the amount of poems you have, it's hard to keep up the reading. You are talented my friend, and you have very creative ideas. I have read who inspire you, and they are very good writers. This was a very good poem, you have a unique style.

Wow, powerful poem! I love the honesty in your writing! The fact that you hold nothing back impresses the heck out of me, awesome job!
