Beyond the monoliths

by InvisibleManiac   Mar 3, 2006

Within the cemetery walls she wanders
Weaving between the tombs and the monolithic angels
Softly caressing the worn carvings she ponders
Will she hear his voice tonight?

Past the graves of her dreams and the crypts of her hopes
She walks on deeper into the graveyard

Finally she comes to her destination
A tall statue of a concrete man
Softly gliding her fingers over the stone
Kissing him as gentle as she can

There in the silver moonlight she stands
Listening for his voice

They try to fool her in that dark place
The gargoyles whisper sinister thoughts to her
But she just stands and gazes upon his face
Knowing his voice too well to be fooled

And as the night goes on
Still she listens intently for even the slightest murmur

Tired she leans gently against him and falls asleep
Simple darkness seeps into her mind
As the moon sets on the night
Something interesting the caretaker did find

By the morning light a new statue he found
A beautiful women sleeping peacefully
Leaning gently against her lover

And as he walks in that place of shadows
Beyond the monolithic angels and tombs of hopes and dreams
He hears the wind
Whispering I love you, it almost seems
