One Last Time

The rain is pouring outside, pounding against the roof
She sits alone in the house, wondering when he will arrive
The bottle is clasped between her hands, a deadly grip
The thoughts are invading her mind, taking over her sense of rationality
The whiskey is drowning out her consciousness, plastering her to the floor
The tears stream down her rosy red cheeks, rolling off one by one
Her body starts to shake, quivering along with her lips
Anger takes over as she sits up and stares out the window, waiting to see a pair of headlights
The moon is shining through her blinds, her furious eyes peer out
The world of darkness beyond her window has but one light, the light of the car
The car door opens, a man dressed all in black gets out
He walks to the front door, hand in pocket
He reaches for his keys and puts them in the lock, opens the door and walks right in
She sits there watching him, he does not notice
He tip-toes to the stairs, she stands up
He turns around and looks at the face of doom, his cheeks go red
" i did not know you would still be up babe" as he walks to wards her
she stands there, bottle still grasped in her hands
she looks him up and down, notices the lipstick smeared above his lips
his shirt is half un-tucked from below his belt, pants unzipped
one pant leg is tucked into his sock, other is hanging loose
he smiles at her, takes her hand in his and kisses it
looks her in the eyes and she cringes at the sight of him, she can not handle it
he smells the liquor on her breath, and feels the tears drying on her face
"what is wrong?" he asks as if he cares
she smiles, "nothing"
"do not lie to me, I know something is"
she walks past him, starts up the stairs
he grabs her hand, pulls her towards him, she falls on the ground
he looks back, feels no regret
she looks up at him, furious as can be
grabs her bottle and smashes it, stumbles to her feet
she looks him in the eyes one last time, and throws the smashed glass at him
it scrapes his leg, he walks down to her
wondering what has gotten into her, he holds out his hand as he leans closer
she slaps his cheek and starts to cry, wishing he would just leave
he kisses her cheek, she pushes him away
he hits a desk, falls to the ground
a drawer slides out, hits the floor
she sees a gun, reaches out for it
he sees her, tries to push it away
she grabs it, aims it towards him
tears stream down his face, she lays her finger on the trigger
he stands up, walks towards her
he looks back at her, shaking with a gun
she pushes down on the trigger, he falls to the ground
she gasps with agony, realizing what she did
puts the gun back, finds a note
"I love you, and I know that what I did was wrong
but if you can find it in you to forgive me
then I will forgive you for what you are about to do"
she read aloud, somehow he knew
sirens sound in the distant, the cops had been called
footsteps are heard, creeping up the stairs
men arrive, look at the girl in so much pain
"do not make any sudden movements" they call out
she grabs the gun, holds it up
they back away, hold their arms up
she holds it to her head, looks them in the eyes
"I have to see him one last time"
she pulls the trigger and falls to the floor.
