To Be As One

by Chris Harding   Mar 6, 2006

If the world could forgive us our vices
Just if we could each say
That wed contributed
In an attempt to make a difference
Then maybe in the way
We could all be equal

In that we could each say
Were as good as each other
For at least we would all be trying
To give something of ourselves
Towards a lasting positive change
Because whatever our bleak history
At least then were starting to make amends

Instead of dividing ourselves continually
Race, gender, religion, creed, sport, music, nationality.

In none of these things have we learnt
That despite our differences
We are still the same

Why do we create these barriers
When we could embrace our brethren
And respect them

Too quickly do we give up on each other
And become angered to hate our brothers out of spite
Only to turn to violence

Telling our respective flocks
Its in the name of peace, truth and justice

Why do we not learn to help those in need?

And tear down our restricting borders
In the name of a united species

If only all the money spent on war
Had been put into medicine, space travel,
Fuel efficiency, land economy

Think where we as a race would be!

Never will we achieve our grandiose cinematic visions
Unless one day we agree to act as a singular force
Wouldnt all our lives feel so much better
If we all knew we were working for these greater achievements

Imagine on the TV news
There never any reports of unwarranted death or destruction
Just stories about the latest boundaries we had broken
Wouldnt we all feel so much more proud to be human

Instead of looking upon ourselves
As part of an unstoppable death machine.
