Mistaken Devotion

by Anthony   Mar 7, 2006

As I read over the letter you wrote,
My heart slowly but surely broke.

How could you stand to say good bye,
And sever the bond between you and I?

You stated no reason, you stated no fact,
You said we were over and that would be that.

By now you'd think I've removed all the pain,
However with intensity it remains.

We still have the class at creative arts high,
Where I met you, crying, and wanting to die.

We still have the park where we shared our first kiss,
But it only brings copies of feelings I miss.

We still have the bistro on market and third,
Where you said you loved me, and lied with each word.

We still have the Tuesday I gave you my heart,
Now the letter you've used to tear it apart.

How do you go about covering scars,
Left by the love that we once called ours?

I'll just start over like the waves of the ocean,
And heal from the pain of mistaken devotion.
