Across the road

by Flying Phoenix   Mar 7, 2006

A lone figure wanders
Kicking leaves in his path
Memories tumble across
Scattered dreams he once knew
Yet he feels so lost

Across the screeching road
Walks a girl by herself
Those dead leaves
Blown away from him
Interrupt her own route

He sighs and looks away
Back along his dark passage
Creeping decisions he once made
Forks he took
To bring him present to here

She blinks away teardrops
And casts her eyes forward
Searching the horizon
For the hope and joy
That she remembers she had

A break in the traffic
And his eyes catch her face
Recollection screaming
From a fractional glance
At her over there

A niggling sensation
Makes her turn and notice him
Like a lightning bolt
She freezes
Leaves swirling around

Neither moves
Caught blindly in this act
Staring straight through the traffic
They stand
And remember of then

He takes a step forward
As she takes one back
Time still moves slowly
And strangers pass
Without them seeing that

The traffic lights change
From green to red
His judgement made
Across this time he came

Still caught in the moment
Shocked of him there
This happened before
But he stayed alone
And did not cross or care

He comes straight up
And gazes down at her face
Silence surrounding them
Her shocked look was replaced
By something of joy, anger and fear
For someone she loved was so very near

His eyes told her why
And asked to forgive
His sight caused pure bliss
As he brought her head up close
And bent towards for a kiss

Love was always there
And chance came again
But once in a blue moon
Could luck have it with them

So take every opportunity
And tell everyone close
Of how much you love
That one person the most
