The Weed

by Kelly Katherine   Mar 7, 2006

The dandelion in the field
So bright, vivid and strong
So unlike the simple, plain blades of grass
Standing tall over all of the others
Included, yet separate from the meadow
Powerful, confident, unafraid
Different than all the rest
Complicated, flourishing
Knowing that only a dandelion could be so perfect
Never realizing its own fate
Ignorance...how blissful

This poem works on so many levels.I like the hidden meaning of being an individual in the form of a common flower/weed.Very clever. This is well written indeed.(A side note, we brought my cousin's girlfriend here to Illinois from Florida and she had never seen a dandelion and thought they were so beautiful, not knowing we all consider them a weed and a nuisance-I've never looked at them the same since).Great poem, Kelly.
