Duality

by Lyra   Mar 8, 2006

Some days, I wake up
With sunlight wrapped around my shoulders
And captured in my smile
Occasional flashes beaming to those worthy of them
Other days I wake up
With storm clouds in my eyes
Twisting words around my fingers
Twining them into something
Not unlike a noose
And just as useful
Some nights, I'm illuminated
With an inner glow
And laughter lilts from my lips
Melodic and tempting
Other nights I blend
With the shadows
Happy to be unnoticed
Content to be discontent
To reach, but feel only air
And eclipse the light of others
I wonder, will your smile still beam
When mine is hidden by a scowl?
Will you lure from me a laugh
when all I offer is an insult?
Will you still extend your hand
When mine's a fist?
Because I'll do the same for you
