Stranger in the Family

by katie hensley   Mar 8, 2006

Twenty three years, and
more than a dozen tears.
Wasted my time searching for you.
Wishing the rumors weren't true.
Wanting to know you as a man.
But I'm holding back the best I can.

Twenty three years and not one single call.
I'm starting to think your not a man at all.
Wondering why you don't want to know me,
but instead, remain a stranger in the family.

A boy, a son, a child of my own.
A sweet grandchild you'll never know.
He'll live his life without you around,
and not shed a tear when you're buried in the ground.
He won't know of things not meant to be.
And never know the stranger in the family.
