Conflict of Profits

by Chris Harding   Mar 8, 2006

We sit back content
Atop our pile of riches
Like a fire breathing dragon
Lording over its horde

Only our flames burn those in other countries
Paid for by dictators dirty blood money
As they kill each other in the name of opposed tyranny
Its one of the most blinding hypocrisies
Of this twenty first century

The laws of our land state
That the trade of weapons is banned
Lest our own bullets be found
To leave a fellow citizen dead

A perfect irony that well always shed
These tears as we watch through TV
Our cold war guns continue this bloodshed

Another triumph for western democracy
As we profit from conflicts cruelty
Whilst we plunder the world on our free markets
That are designed to make the deprived poorer

The worst part of it is
That those who dont realise
Just pull the wool further over their eyes
As we hide from the awful truth
That the money we earn
From all these wars we try to stop
Is preventing that next tax rise
That will cost another government its job

Good one (as ususal!!!!). just one thing - the poem starts so beautifully, it's poetic and carries you along as you read. the only thing i found odd is:

"The worst part of it is"
    That those who dont realise

    - that first sentence of the last stanza seems more colloquial than the rest of the poem.

however, the manner in which you have portrayed reality really stands out!

will come back to read more of urs

    good luck and peace
