The Shadow of the Marine

by Heather   Mar 10, 2006

The sun was beginning to set
just over the hill.
as the marine walked through the field.
the air became very still.
the names of his "brothers"
were etched in stone
no one saw the tears
for this marine was all alone
he knelt before each stone
a shadow he cast.
of bravery, loyalty and love for his land
something that seemed all of the past.
a single red rose lay at the head
a symbol of the blood that was shed.
"all gave some, some gave all"
is what really must be said
this marine's dream lives on
he did his part
no matter what others think
he gave of his heart.
the shadow that is cast
by this hero is humble,
for the trials he faced
would make any other man stumble
the sun was down
the shadow gone.
one of "the few, the proud"
moved on.
