From child to angel

by Ellieh   Mar 10, 2006

When you looked at me what did you see?
did you see the young child singing a sweet melody?
did you notice the bruises on my arms or neck?

For you see at school was when i was really me
carefree, young, free!
i let the innocent child come out to play
but only at school and only by day

When night came
i sent her off to a magical place
so filled with life and grace
I didn't want her to know the ugliness of this place
instead of a young child
a young woman took her place
her features settled delicately in place

She sat in her room
her features carefully blank
she waited like this
for hours as long as it would take
for she was the other half of this innocent girl
no harm would come to her this innocent child

heavy footsteps alerted this fragile young woman
the door opened with unforeseen haste
he was drunk again
this beast of a man
grabbing her hair he dragged her roughly to the bed
not caring that he hurt her head
ripping the clothes from her body
and tying her to the bed
He would spend hours there
waiting playing with her and her hair
waiting for her to beg and cry
then she would wish she had died
When at last he pushed inside
all this young woman-child could do was scream in pain and cry
This madman took his pleasure for hours on end
not caring that this woman was underfed
he would beat her
and starve her
and rape her at night
always leaving before it was light

When at last he left the woman cried
the then did her best to wipe away her tears
and the blood from her face
Never once realizing that the little girl was coming back to this horrid place
"why does he do this?" she would ask
"why she does he hate us?" she would cry

Once again she was struck by how innocent this child really was
she never understood how she got those awful bruises or occasional broken bones
all the knows is that her guardian angel is here
I am here to stay and keep the madman away

For this innocent child is one of gods flock
and under no circumstances was she to leave
looking at this innocent child singing a sweet melody
playing hide and seek behind an oak tree
a great sadness fills me as i realized that, that child was me.
