Working Class Heroes

by Cory Mastrandrea   Mar 12, 2006

See 'em on street corners walking to work
or in dark alleys taking garbage out the back door
Sometimes well dressed and all put together in uniform
Receipts hold stories of their days standing behind cash registers
They work long shifts so they can go home to food, heat, electricity, or family.
They are the majority, yet they are the people everyone's trying not to be
forgotten faces, the backbone of big business, and the foundation of our country sacrificed for numbers
Represented by monetary units, decimals and dollar signs, and numbers of mass put on flammable paper and filed in dusty cabinets.
seen only through recorded profits and loses that are considered more important than those who make corporation complexes capable.
But they are more than this, invaluable, they have smiles and voice with a character all their own; they are working class heroes.

Everytime I click on one of your poems, I know it's gonna be a strong message full of meaning.
This one is no exception. You bring to light the so called underdog, and honor them with your words.
I applaud your efforts, well done.
Take care and keep it up~Holly
