The Future In Retrospect

by JustAFoolInLove   Mar 13, 2006

Doing great all alone
I’ve conquered all on my own,
But Momma, you should see me, now
I wake some nights so cold
And loneliness is staring me in the face
You never taught me how to face it
And, oh, how I wish you had
And so I just lie there, lonely
Praying it’ll go away,
Just hoping it’ll leave my head
And one night’s rest will save my soul
But I’m so alone in the world
And still, I’m so naïve
Never could I hope to see myself
With a ‘Dr.’ by my name
And oh, how I wish I’d done so much more
My life’s full of what I hate
And if you thought I hated nothing,
Then, God, how right you are
And I find it at every corner and turn I take
To be sure of myself seems such a sin
And to turn the other cheek hurts more than you think
But to keep on wandering for hopelessness
For earnest failure and nothing more
Is everything I couldn’t bear
Not alone, and not anymore

Those lines are still my favorite out of this poem. What more is there to say? Its great! I would vote a five but its 5:49 in the morning and I can't sleep, my computer's too slow, and I'm too lazy. So. Accept my comment and be happy, please. The poem is greaat!

I love this poem. Bravo! I loved these lines:
My life’s fun of what I hate
And if you thought I hated nothing,
Then, God, how right you are
And I find it at every corner and turn I take
