The Howling Wind (Ode To Ignorance)

by RainbowSlider   Mar 13, 2006

I was just a child when I first heard the sound of the howling wind.
I can remember that the howling wind was my only friend.
The sound was so blissful and comforting to me.
We were so close and it was just like family.

The howling wind went with me every where I went.
It was like an echo chamber for my anger to vent.
People would try to talk to me but their voices were dampened.
The howling wind made all my emotions and feelings dampened.

The howling wind protected me from any type of interaction.
People had to yell at me to get any kind of reaction.
In school I had to read paragraphs over to make any sense.
Most people that I knew thought I was dense.

As I got older the sound of the howling wind got louder.
People thought I was dumb so I got prouder.
Eventually the howling wind got so loud it became maddening.
I had to escape from people and that was saddening.

I asked for help from the howling wind.
I was told that you just need thoughts, my friend.
I have thoughts many thoughts since then.
But sometimes at night I hear a faint echo of the howling wind.

I enjoyed your style of rhymes. I don't get the last stanza, however.
