A Dance That Lasts

by Benjamin Phillips   Jan 23, 2004

I can remember back when we had our first dance
You gave me a small laugh because I had such a horrible stance

As the music played I slowly got lost in your eyes
Because at that moment there was so much I began to realize

Beauty, it doesn't come from anywhere outside
It comes from within, everything you have inside

It's not your looks or anything I can see
It's who you are, your personality and everything you wish to be

Love, it isn't just something you feel it's something you do
It's not something that grows old, only something that forever stays new

It's not just your feelings you have for each other
It's the things that you yearn to do together

Dreams, They will follow you no matter where you will go
So why not follow them because deep down inside you don't want to say no

They will help make up who you are and the path in life you will take
Whether you believe in and follow them is choice you have to make

Chances, it's the choices you make and what you trust yourself to do
They are always lay ed before you but which ones you take is up to you

Taking the right ones can make you a happier and better person
And taking the wrong ones can make you depressed and even a worse one

You gave me a worried look and asked me if anything was wrong
But I told you it was nothing, I was just enjoying the song

I was to afraid to tell you these things because I didn't want to scare you away
Now I'm telling you these things, taking a chance, and hoping you'll stay

The end of the dance came and we separated apart
I want to continue that dance today but have a much better start
