Perception is Everything?

by Hollowandalone69   Mar 15, 2006

Living in a whir of fad diets and 24-Hour gyms
Where even the calories in a stick of gum are counted,
You learn to suck it in and flash a smile
While your life hangs dangerously close to the edge
You continue to throw up your fat-free yogurt and granola
And ignore the quickly ending cliff
Your dad tries to make you eat your pasta, or at least the dinner roll,
While he nervously chews on his lip
But, he still insists to your doctor that youâ??re fine
Because he, like you, knows that perception is everything
One day, you throw away your precious golden locket,
Because he wanted you to eat
One day, you ignore her calls,
Because she says sheâ??s concerned about you
One day, you wake up and donâ??t even feel hungry anymore
You lose focus in school and drop everything you used to care about
Because now, all that matters is being thin, thin, thin!
And you canâ??t breathe,
And your head feels light
And you lose balance
But, you smile as you crash
Because perception is everything, right?

This is a really great poem hunni! I saw what you wrote in a discussion regarding pro-ana sites. You are so right. No one will get better if they are not ready. www.myspace.com/scenic_disturbance

Hi, I am David from creative comp! I loved this poem when you shoed it to me in class, and I love it still. It really sends a powerful message regarding the perception of perfection, and the tribulaions of anorexia and bulimia. Thank you for sharing a message that needed to be said.
