Still Daddy

by Sondos   Mar 17, 2006

About my mum and dad's divorce.

She wasn't bad, always listened
Beautiful and innocent
I'll miss the loving trance of her eyes
Her howling on falling over
I didn't do it purposefully
It was just a 'a bit of fun'
My child is still a virgin in the real world
Wide eyed and curious
With nobody to guide her
Help her, stand beside her

I didn't mean it, honest
Its killing me to lose her
I'll keep in touch, that's what I'll do
Phone her up everyday, month, twice a year
The hatred swelling in her eyes isn't real
She's just a child, doesn't understand
Too young, maybe she'll forget
I'm still Daddy

She probably won't know I'm gone
Just carry on skipping in the park
Laughing when she's tickled
Shame those tickling hands won't be mine
She must know I love her
She's not stupid, gets that from me

She had to understand and be big girl
I'm a man, not allowed to cry
I'll still be there
Its her mother's fault, blame her
My love for my baby will always be there
Shameful as I look
Crushing her dreams is hard for me aswell

This is well written and very poignant. What I also liked (and I went back and read it a 2nd time) is how the emphasis really is placed on sadness; there's a distinct lack of a temptation to be judgemental. I like it.

From the angle of a child ... to the dreams of a father! Beautiful, emotional write. What a daughter wouldn't give to read these words when old enough to understand. Save and share!

Feeling sorry for you after i read this poem of yours. i jus pray that nobody experiences this bitter moment in life. on the whole, it is a poem well woven and meant for matured readers. as the poem advances line by line the poem creates a deeper impact on the reader as a parent and child. stay in touch. love, bhavin.
