Through the Storm

by Samantha Compton   Mar 19, 2006

The flakes fall down
Around outside,
As forward we insist
Our lives to drive
Into storms
That blind us still,
Deleting lives
with screaming shrill

And yet their voices
Ever stay
Unheard throughout
The cloudy day
The blizzard swallows
Up their cries,
And blinds their wandering
Desperate eyes.

And yet a light
Is seen to shine,
A ray of hope
I take as mine,
It banishes
This storm inside,
Until I tread
Upon my pride

I must accept
This wondrous thing
That comes to rescue
As I cling
Not to it's
Inviting heat,
But instead to the storm
I could not beat.

Sorrow comes
and fills my way
And I regret
To think and say
Denying this
Amazing gift
Is what I would have
Done to live.

But surely without it
I would have died,
The snow have buried
Me alive,
My only escape, as it would seem,
Would be a trip
Into a dream.

And yet it saved me
From myself,
And foolish dreams
Of love and wealth.
It picked me up
Despite my cries,
And rescued me
From society's lies.
