Consumption

by Samantha Compton   Mar 21, 2006

Their hearts are black,
It clouds their minds,
And turns their morals,
Their joys it hides.
The cycle will
Consume all in it's path,
As many seek
To welcome it back.

The earth will turn,
The seasons change,
But they will never
See the blaze.
It destroys below
Their sorry feet,
Humanity's flame
That no man can beat.

The hopelessness
Seeps deep inside
Of their lives,
Their souls, their minds,
Until they all
Are at a loss,
And innocence
Is what it cost.

No control,
None at all.
They keep pressing on,
As downward they fall.
The end is so near,
Yet they cannot see.
For all of their ways
Camouflage their needs.

Finally,
The desperate pain
Will climb through
Where their happiness was slain.
There's on escape
That they can find,
And so they end it,
Rest their mind.

I grieve for those
Who lost their way,
For citizens
That had to pay.
And why it must
Require them
To end their lives,
Their souls condemned.

This ring of death,
Deceiving trap,
Runs free, deceiving
All in it's path.
Why must we all
see such corruption?
It will trap those who are weak
In it's ultimate consumption.
