It Was Time

by Kate   Mar 22, 2006

Her breath was shaky
As tears rolled down her cheek
Her cries muffled
These thirteen years caused her heart weak

Her stomach was churning
She just stared into the black
Her eyes straining to see something never there,
She vaguely made out her old cd rack

She giggled incessantly remembering
Her and her boyfriend had carelessly knocked it down,
It was too hard to remember the times she was truly happy,
That thought brought back the tears and frown

In her nose and her mouth,
Taste of blood was stained
Her wrist was stinging
Lord she wanted to rid herself of this pain

Her head and chest pounding,
She knew it would be soon now
She felt her blood pump,
Tonight was the time for death she vowed

The digital red numbers read out 10:31
She'd been sitting there waiting for over an hour
A powdery paste was clogging her throat
She felt the pills take full power

She looked over the letter she wrote
It read, "I'm sorry, please forgive, my family and friends I will miss"
Then, "I love you" with her name at the end
It was signed with the tears from her eyes and blood off her wrist

She lied down knowing it was finally time
Her eyes closed peacefully her lips turning into a smile
It was finally time to go to a better place
Though she'd visit this earth and the ones she loved every once in a while

This is a powerful poem. You have found a way to tell a story and pull at the readers heart. Great job.

I suggest reading them when post them, because this site takes apostrophe's and puts characters where they are. After you upload one with an apostrophe, you have to hit edit, remove the characters (last stanza) and put the punctuation back in.

    In this line:

The thought brought back the tears and frown

try "a" in front of frown and it will flow better.

I love your style and voice. Keep writing. I took 20 years off and wish I never did. You have a strong voice in your poems. Let it be heard.
