Light Seeps Through the Darkness

by Angela   Mar 24, 2006

She sits on the curb of the street,
Alone in the darkness.
Beads of cold water drip down her face,
Mixing with warm salty tears of her own,
Soaking both her skin and clothing.
But no anger or sadness pushes itself into her thoughts.
She sits, calm yet unsure.
She gives up on pondering why she cries.
And though the dark blinds her vision,
She knows somebody lurks the street before her.
Footsteps draw louder,
They come towards her.
She keeps her head up, alert.
Until, finally, she makes out a shadowy silhouette,
And then an extended hand.
Slowly, she gathers herself,
And before she thinks twice,
She finds her own hand moving towards it.
She sits on the curb of the street,
But now, she is not alone.
It is still dark,
And beads of cold water continue to fall upon her,
But she is no longer crying.
She is smiling.

Honestly, I don't even know what to say. Like in a speechless because it was so amazing kind of way. It's really pretty the way she's crying yet not in a spiteful way. And it's nice that she finds like this inner peace at the end.
