Always

by Caroline Elise   Mar 25, 2006

You said you'd always be there for me because you said that I meant the world to you. You said if I ever needed anything all I had to do was ask. You said you would always love me. I'm proud of you because you've kept your promise all these years.

That 1st Christmas you had said that you couldn't wrapp or bag or put a bow on your present for me, because you said all you could give me was your love. So you wrapped up the most beautiful ring you could find. I still have that ring. I wear it all the time.

And on Valentine's Day you came to my house at 2 .a.m. you threw pebbles at my bedroom window then climbed up the vines and kissed me. Then you handed me roses and chocolates and I started to tell you that you really didn't have to, but you silenced me with a kiss.

I don't know how long we sat on that hill in the park and talked together staring at the stars. I don't even remember what we talked about. All I remember is thinking to myself, "I'm the luckiest girl alive." I just sighed and put my head on your shoulder and we sat it the still silence till the sun rose.

Now I'll catch myself thinking about you and I'll have to come back to reality. I 't tell you how many times I've nearly been fired from my job because I couldn't stop thinking about you and at night if I can't sleep I'll put your picture on the pillow and call you, curl up under the blanket you made me, and fall asleep to your breathing.

On my birthday you gave me the most wonderful necklace to match my ring. It was god and it had a single diamond. You always said that the diamond was you and that if I was lost you'd shine the way. I got a lot of presents that day but none were nearly as special, thoughtful, or sincere as yours. You helped me put that necklace on right away and it fit perfectly. I turned around and smiled and you and you asked me, "What? It's just a necklace." But I told you, "It's not just a necklace it's the necklace." Then I kissed you in front of all of my family and friends, and I didn't care.

I remember when we were shopping one day I saw one of those photo booths. I dragged you over there and told you how cute it would be to get our pictures taken. You said it was cheesy but agreed. We goofed of in that booth, all the pictures we hilarious we looked at them as we walked to your car when we got in you dug through the console till you found a red Sharpie and circle one of the pictures and wrote something. You didn't let me see it, you just stuck it in your sun visor and pulled away from the mall when we stopped at a gas station to fill up you saw me lean over and open the visor, we looked at each other and smiled at the top you had written "ALWAYS" and at the bottom you'd circled the picture where I had leaned over and kissed you, below it you'd written "My Favorite Picture" when you got in the car I enveloped you in a hug and sealed it with a kiss. You just smiled all the way back to my house.

You said you'd always be there for me because you said that I meant the world to you. You said if I ever needed anything all I had to do was ask. You said you would always love me. I'm proud of you because you've kept your promise all these years.
