The Detoxation of a Childless Heart

The Detoxation of a Childless Heart

He grips a branch in his hand
that now holds his IV.
Up to bat and a boyish grin
bottom of the ninth
but it's bottoms up in full grown sin.
Take a plunge into the deep blue
the deep brown
that's fooling you.

He clung to his mother's dress
held the yellow polkadots
like recycled oval tin
as an old sidewalk resident
laughed with his elbow in greesy plastic
lips parted and showed dirty teeth,
"Get home Johnny!
Everyone misses you!
and give 'em a goodnight kiss for me,
cause tomorrow ain't a commin' for you."
then the bum hit the concrete
smiling in his slumber.
"Pay no attention to him
he's got no more heart
than he's got brains."

You sit on the curb
in your new suede shoes
then take a hit
and wait for the world to
disapear.

9 o'clock and your sung your lullaby
"I'm too old for this now."
Your father leaves the room
hiding a tear
the last song was your eulogy son
only memories of broken bottles remain.
