Reflection

A girl once so whole
Is now broken and thin
You won't see her pain
For it lies deep within

She's falling so fast
But you just can't see
She won't ever show
Who she's come to be

She's told me her secrets
And all that she does
But I remember so vaguely
Who she really was

She opened her heart
And she poured out her soul
And soon after
She just lost her control

I promised this girl
That I would never tell
Even if one day
All her strength fell

But I find it so hard
It scares me, you see
This girl is a reflection
Of this lonely me

She told of her problems
Her addictions and mistakes
How she wishes to die
How her crumbled heart aches

She said how she's hopeless
How she can feel her life fade
And she confessed in me
How she cuts with her blade

She pulled back her sleeves
To reveal her self harm
Only to remind me
Of my cuts on my arm

She said how she's helpless
How she feels so beat
And she confessed in me
How she refuses to eat

She lifted her shirt
To reveal how she's thin
Only to remind me
That I, like her, sin

I knew I must help her
But I didn't know how
She's fallen so deep
It's impossible now

For I was just too afraid
To face who is me
In fear of understanding
What I've come to be

And I realize now
What should have been done
But it's just too late
Her life's been undone

She has nothing to live for
Her decision is made
She can see her end clearly
When she looks at her blade

Her life was cut short
When she took up that knife
Slit both her wrists
And ended her strife

But I found it so hard
It scared me, you see
This girl is a reflection
Of this lonely me
