Melissa

He sings of Sweet Melissa
In all that he will do
He is married to me
But he is in love with you

He seems to spend today
living in the past
Dreaming of the times
That ended so fast

Seven years you were together
You once called him your man
Both of you have moved on
And he is no longer a Ramblin Man

But his heart is unreachable
It is under lock and key
He longs to give his love to you
But he is living here with me

He has become a family man
It's just the three of us
But he has never showed me love
He has never earned my trust

He turned his back on me
When I needed him the most
We live like two roommates
We are not that close

Sexual encounters come about
Every now and then
I long to make love
He treats me like a friend

He gave his heart away
When he looked into your eyes
The love he feels for you
cannot be disguised

Marrying him was a mistake
That is what I truly believe
He gave you everything
He has nothing left for me

But a lonely, stone cold relationship
With occasional compassion
Often a circumstantial tragedy
Lacking a reaction

Occasionally I trick myself
by trying to believe
That he is really over you
And he is in love with me

But the living day-to-day
Tells a different story
The day that you walked away
He gave up all his glory

A lost man in a crowd
He is like a rolling stone
Surrounded by his future
But still feeling so alone

Nothing will replace
The love he felt for you
A first love supersedes
The love that we vowed to

I should have been his first
Because you are his last
I cannot warm up to a man
Who is living in the past

I have so much to give
But he just puts me on a shelf
Since he cannot have you
He won't love anybody else
