I'll Miss You

"If you're afraid to love again,

You can't blame me for being afraid
Even if he wasn't the cause
He didn't mean to break my heart
It was all in the long pause.

He loved me, I loved him
That part wasn't the issue.
As he lay in that hospital bed,
He said to me, "I'll miss you."

That last day I saw his face
Though it was lifeless and still
It seemed nice and sunny
But to me, there was a chill.

I remember the embraces
From his family and friends
it seems he left us
with many untied ends.

Their sad faces and smeared makeup
That part wasn't the issue.
As he lais still in his casket,
I whispered silently, "I'll miss you."
