Too Slow

by Jeff C   Mar 27, 2006

Do you remember the simpler days
When we lived in simpler ways
I'm not speaking of 9/11 or Iraq
But of sex, lies, and smoking crack
Not "When I was your age..."
But of the innocence, the lack of rage
When we were young, before we got here
Before we knew words like fag and queer
Do you remember the times before we were wired
Before having sex was just required
Life was so much simpler then
Girls didn't think so much about being thin
Weed was found by the fence at school
It wasn't a drug for every idiot trying to be cool
Before we knew war wasn't just the past
Before we knew the evils could be so vast
Before the girls around us scarred thier arms
As a way of dealing with life's stress and harm
No one in grade school worried about being jumped
In clicks and groups and gangs, we weren't lumped
Life was simpler then but I guess we grow
Maybe we'll realize we're on the wrong path
But I think it'll happen way too slow.
