Shadows of Love (Sestina)

by Simon Hayes   Mar 27, 2006

Along side the pale glass window,
Sits the memories of our absolute love.
Tarnished by a shattered dream,
Overcasting the trail to your heart.
The shadows of love blocking the way,
Preventing me from reaching you.

Angels circle above seeking you,
Trapped behind the stained glass window
Hoping to find another way.
A way to disperse their love
And bring you closer to my heart,
Fulfilling my only dream.

Every night you enter my dream.
The shadows of love confining you,
Slowly breaking this lonely heart
Like a splintered, fractured window.
I continue my attempt to free this love,
Resisting the pain thrown my way.

Many seasons have passed this way
Emptying the remnants of my dream.
My dream consisting only of love.
My true incessant love for you,
Captured within a fragile window
Neatly shaped in the form of a heart.

Blind fold my heart.
It shall not deprive the way,
Nor darken the window,
The only exit from my melancholy dream.
The exit created by the angels for you.
The escape from the evil shadows of love.

Step this way, find your love.
Grip my no longer lonesome heart.
Release this love I have for you.
Open the sunlit way,
The path to fulfilling my dream.
Unlock this stained glass window.

Show the angels their way
From this concluded dream.
Release the shadows of love through this window.

You know this is one of a select many poems that have not made me barf.

The Romantic content was fantastical and the imagery was flawless. I am impressed Si, truly you are a great poet.

I tried to comment before but I was then, as I am now, speechless. The form appears difficult but you make it seem so easy. The words were so beautifula nd flowing and the emotion...perfect!
