Suicide Tale

by S R P   Mar 28, 2006

You were found
in the closet in your room
a single strap around your neck
hanging there for all to see your impending doom
while screams pierce the air around.

Your family races upstairs
to see you hanging there..
astonished expressions on their faces
the ones you thought didn't care.

Your father gently cuts you down
and takes away the strap
puts his mouth to yours
hoping to bring the air you lost back.

Your mother is crying hysterically
your sister just stares
your father is becoming empty
and tension is in the air.

Your mother runs to dial 911
it seems like air has left the room.
I wonder if you were watching
when your families life became their doom.

The call came at 2am
waking me from my sleep
I expected a drunken call
never one this deep.

I was told to get your uncle
hurry and do it fast
I raced down the stairs
my mind flitting from one topic to the next.

I didn't know what happened
but I knew it had to be something bad
an accident of some kind
but never something that big.

My mother was waked
and the message quickly delivered
in the dark I stood
until I heard the final word.

You had died that night
December 27th
maybe you thought it was right
but the reasoning to us is left forever unknown.

We went to what had once been a home
it was broken and torn.
Your mother was bitterly insane
crying out your name.

Things were thrown
things were smashed
blame was thrown
about why their life was trashed.

Your sister came over
and I took her in my arms
She sobbed your name
her sister
her role model,
gone in just one flash.

Things went so fast,
things went too far
everything was crashing down
right in front of our eyes.

I stood at your funeral
a blank expression on my face
I was your age, feeling the same as you had.
I didn't know what to think,
my heart continued to race..

Everyone around was crying
I could see the life leaving your father's eyes
he was slowly dying..
you were always daddy's little girl.

I saw your mother
with her eyes full of tears
as your sister read her poem
and the reverend said the final words..
"ashes to ashes.. dust to dust."

Your soul is gone now
but i see your picture from time to time
your green eyes bright
and a smile on your lips.

You knew how to make us laugh
but now we have only memories of the time
the time you pretended to be happy
just as I do now.

I seen what life did to you
it completely destroyed you.
You were only 13..

So now we think of you
and remember the good times
we laugh at odd things
but then we remember..
You're not here.
