Universal Mom

by David   Mar 29, 2006

We need a universal mom.
One who could rise up like the goddess of
Benevolence and discipline and
Punish the bad boys and girls of the world
Or hug them until they understood how good
Love feels
Or if they did not obey her laws
GROUND THEM
Send them to their room and
Make them think
Finally think
About what they had done
Like genocide, and warfare and terrorism
And breaking curfew
She would keep track of what we saw
And the toys we played with
Removing the ones she deemed inappropriate
Like bombs and DRAINO
Then she would make them do their homework
And their would be no ignorant leaders
Because if they refused, they would be downstairs
With their brothers who decided not to listen
Grounded until further notice
However, she is not just a reprimanding woman
She is also a teacher
She could show us all how to be as open
As her front door and her soul
And to be accepting, and never judge
Before you know
She could also, help us grow
She could build us up like a bonfire
Until it got too big to handle
Then she would send the flame into the frozen peaks
Of the continental divide and over it through the harsh desert
So that one day, we would have to fight our way through hardship
And elemental travesties
To get back the loving woman again
And everyone would learn that they
Are brothers and sisters
And siblings are your best friends for as long as you will live
So they would respect one another
And everyone would go and play a massive game of whatever ball
In Jimmy’s backyard, and no one
Would have to know a secret password to play
There would be no secret clubs because
Mom would break them up.
Everyone would love and respect one another, and go play together
From when the sun rose on happiness and set on hope.
Every night for dinner
She would cook a feast fit for a king
Or a duke if we complained
And before we went to bed with a bursting belly
And a toasty warm soul, she would make us brush our teeth
Say prayers to whatever god we desired
She would come, tuck us in
And know that she was watching us while we slept
Because it would make up for all the time Father
Was never there for
She would nurture us until we were ready
And eventually obsolete herself
Like all great mothers do.
