Goodbyes

by Jess   Mar 29, 2006

Goodbyes are always hard to say
It makes it harder, day-by-day,
Knowing that you, in the end, must say,
Goodbye.

Students often come and go,
And I do come and help them grow.
But in the end it's them who start...
Saying goodbye is the hardest part.

Though you want to help them through,
Sometimes they end up helping you.
Then they thank you for what you've done,
And tell you that your number one.

They trust in you and they believe,
That you will never, ever leave.
And they make it so difficult to say,
That word that means I'm going away.

You put on a smile,
Maybe you could wait a while?
No, you know what you must say,
It's the thing you've been dreading everyday.

And as you speak, their smiles fade,
And their eyes grow wide,
You feel as though you've died inside.
They can't believe your saying goodbye.

You tell them it will be just fine,
That you will visit all the time.
And though your filled with dismay,
At the thought of going away,

An adventure is what goodbyes do start,
And the thought of an adventure does thrill my heart.
So goodbyes do not spell the end,
They spell the beginning, and hearts do mend.
