Lovers To Friends

Moving on is hard,
And yes I am trying.
Outside I'm fine,
But on the inside I"m crying.

I don't want to let him go,
I loved him so much,
But I still want to stay friends,
I want to stay in touch.

In the beginning we were close,
Friends is all we were,
Until it progressed into love,
I don't know which I'd prefer.

It was great either way,
Being friends was good,
Being loved was special,
But if I could take it back I would.

I would only take it back because of one thing,
The heartbreak.
It tore me apart inside,
And also for his sake.

Although he broke my heart,
He was hurting too,
Because he knew how I felt,
He knew what he put me through.

But it was for the best,
He said it, and I agree,
Otherwise he would hurt me again,
And that couldn't be.

I can't have it happen again,
So it's best to move on,
To just be friends,
For our lives to go on.

I talked to him tonight,
It was great,
Just as friends,
Just as a mate.

I'm looking forward to a great friendship,
To forget about the past,
Because he is a great guy,
And I hope our friendship lasts.
