This Lie Called "Love"

This Lie Called "Love"

She sits at the dinner table all alone
Across her lap lies the silent phone
The candles are burning, just like her fears
As she tries to fight back knowing tears

Finally the phone starts to ring at eight
He says "I'll be at work real late"
She feels her heart break into sand
But still pretends to understand...

Hours go by as she stares at the moon
Praying her husband will get home soon
The tears start spilling out once again
As she cries and wonders where he's been...

At midnight he finally comes through the door
Just like a thousand times before
She stares at the lipstick on his cheek
Her heart breaks yet she doesn't speak

Instead they give a kiss goodnight
As she tells herself they'll be alright
Trying to ignore what she's scared of...
Living in this lie called "love"
