Hide and Seek

by Shane Peate   Apr 1, 2006

Why do we insist on hiding
That which our minds' deciding
Covering the truth with lies
A part of our conscience dies

When in fact each person here
Experiences the same fear
Then causes us to react
In ways we aren't meant to act

These actions derived not from desire
Desire that fuels our secret fire
And unknown this source remains
Though it flows throughout our veins

We exhibit a front, strong as steel
But inside we want to feel
That we can let ourselves go
And get caught up in the flow

But alas the fear takes hold
Signals our cautions, makes us cold
Causes others to search to find
The secrets hidden inside our mind

They travel through our winding maze
Piercing through our concrete gaze
Until at last they meet success
Finally there's no more to guess
