One True Romance

by Peter Williams   Apr 1, 2006

In the time it took me to learn your name,

Cupid and his arrow had already took aim.

In the sky where the winds danced,

I dare not spare even a passing glance.

I thought the jaybirds sung,

But then again I was just foolish and young.

In the emerald cave where we kept our love,

The rain had fallen from the heavens above.

I knew what had been had to be,

Because now the blind shall once again see.

We laughed a laugh that shook the Earth,

I thought it would last for all that it was worth.

I saw the way... the way you smile,

A target that I would miss just by a mile.

Everything happens for a reason,

There is love in the air and in the season.

In the past I had my regrets,

While I quietly smoked all those cigarettes.

I was slowly slipping... slowly fading,

My heart was doing all of the business and trading.

Our paths crossed and then they intertwine,

On this day... this day of Valentine.

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.

But a love with a name like yours and my heart will forever beat.
