A year has past
And what has begun?
Wars and deaths
People dropping one by one
Battles tearing families beyond repair
Young one’s left alone
With just a prayer
Bombings and drugs
Destroying the world
Lives cut short
Without being unfurled
But slowly we lift ourselves
Up through the ashes
Forgetting the heartache, fire and crashes
Looking back on the events
That brought us such pain
Looking for the rainbow
After the rain
Holding on tight
To the people who care
In loving memory of the ones not there
Starting anew at January first
A new year unrehearsed
A year for us to newly begin
A better year
free from sin
No more bodies in the fields
From the enemy unrevealed
Children smiling
No more tears
Living a world without fears
